The Children’s Musical Theater Festival (CMTF) is 9-day performance based theater program in New York City. Students cast in the Festival will have the opportunity to originate roles in new musical works by up-and-coming theater writers or new cut-down versions of established musicals. The CMTF program is open to students ages 8-19.
Students are split into two groups based on age. Each show will have 2 performances in the Off–Broadway state of the art theatre – NEW YORK LIVE ARTS. The Children’s Musical Theater Festival is by audition only. Each year 50 students are selected to be part of this program.
We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Theatrical Rights Worldwide (TRW), Broadway Licensing and Beat By Beat Press to present the most exciting titles for Summer 2020. We will be work-shopping new titles for their incredible catalogues! Past productions that had their start in the Children’s Musical Theater Festival include the school versions of The Addams Family, Wind in the Willows, SPAMalot, Curtains, We Will Rock You, Flight of the Lawnchair Man, The Grunch, We Are Monsters, Like You Like It, Beat Bugs, Cyrano and many others! Over the past decade, 500 students from all over the world have been part the CMTF program!
The Children’s Musical Theater Festival is produced by Broadway Workshop, New York City’s top training program for young actors and our not-for-profit partner Project Broadway. CMTF is a tuition based program, financial aid is available though Project Broadway.
Auditions for the 2020 Festival have concluded. Thank you to all the incredible young people who auditioned either at our live auditions or by video submission. The 2020 festival auditions brought out our largest number of students ever. We sincerely wish we could cast each student who auditioned. We hope that if you are not selected for the program this year you consider one of Broadway Workshop’s summer 2020 Intensives taking place in New York City or on tour. If you have been cast in the CMTF program, you will receive more program and registration information.
Live Auditions took place in NYC January 4-11, 2020. On line video submission video auditions closed on February 1, 2020.
